Sayat DEGIRMENTAS
Jewellery Designer & Goldsmith
About

Sayat DEGIRMENTAS is a jewellery designer and goldsmith, currently in his second year of the Jewellery Art and Design program at Vancouver Community College (VCC). His connection to goldsmithing began at a young age, spending summers in his father’s jewellery shop. It was there that he first learned the craft, developing many of the skills that would stay with him throughout his life, including learning to hold a torch and swing a hammer as a child. After nearly 15 years of dedicated service with the RCMP, Sayat has returned to his roots in jewellery and goldsmithing. His journey from the jewellery bench to a career in public service, and now back to the craft, has shaped the perspective, discipline, integrity, and sense of responsibility he brings to his work. Today, Sayat is continuing his formal training at VCC, refining his skills as a goldsmith and developing his own approach to jewellery design and craftsmanship. For Sayat, working with jewellery is not only about technical skill and design, but also about the trust placed in a goldsmith when entrusted with something precious and often deeply personal.Upon completing his studies, he plans to open his own atelier, bringing together a lifelong connection to the craft, the experience of a life spent in service, and a renewed commitment to the work of the goldsmith.
